The So-Called Old Tank Syndrome

New tank syndrome is well documented, in occurrence there is an article on it on this website (http://www.aquaristsonline.com/articles). It is where the aquarist has been unquiet and has added livestock either in too much size in the first place, or has added livestock in ones or twos but has left deficient time between additions. In other language, the bio-filtration has been incompetent to cope as it has not had the duration to adjust to the bigger burden. This problem doesn’t chance so much nowadays perhaps because of better cultivation, the widespread use of exist rock, and exceedingly efficient protein skimmers.

Old tank syndrome is a totally separate kettle of try to catch fish (so to speak!). The aquarium could have been running for years, so the bio-filtering will be well matured and full geared up to the weight it needs to feel. The equipment has been in use for a drawn out time and has never given disturb. The aquarist has noticed that it equitable doesn’t gaze as good as it used to.

Often the aquarist cannot six feet out why this should be, and this is understandable. Course seawater changes and not special maintenance are done. The livestock is fed as normal and looks of a sound constitution enough.

The problem could well be with the aquarist him/herself. When the aquarium first started all was under 1 and 2, it was new, there was something happening all the duration. It could have been the bio-filtration maturing, the joining of the first fish and then ongoing angle, the corals going in and colonizing and all the rest. Attention a captive take in settle and evolve is terrific.

There lies one in posse reason. There comes a sharp end when the system is fully stocked and the aquarist, who has done the individual research, knows that to augment stock would be erroneous. The corals have grown over a circuit and been successful, so there isn’t a strait for anything else to be added. It has been parallel this for a long duration.

So the aquarist does support week in, week out. Doesn’t bewail of course, as sustenance is a responsibility, don’t do the justification - give up the hobby. There is joy generally in vision the reef, but something is lost, and that’s the excitement and coruscate of it.
