Interesting thought for a hang on refugium

After much, much perusal I stopped to meditate about some of the old equipment I brought to operate and is not being used.

I have an older suspend-on filter with a built in skimmer. It's the forbearing that overflows into the reservoir with the skimmer on top as the lid. I'm not certain how well it works because it's been a while, but if I filled this with something of a piece cheata or caulerpera and/or mangrove pods, it would be more than I have now with fairly diminutive effort or out of pouch expence.

The questions here are...

1. Will this good turn my tank at all?
2. Do I extremity to do anything "specific" as far as plummery? It's basically a pass through a strainer the media would be the macros
3. Will I extremity to add special additives?
4. If pods tend hitherward with the living macro, will the filtering itself harm the pods?


Originally I was going to use my old 5gal. cistern as a refugium, but the plumbing alone would be a PITA because the 5gal. would be under the 32Gal. (Screwed up rest on the feet my brother-in-law built for it combined with want of space) I can still do it, I'm right looking at things I have not crooked now as opposed to rushing out to dispose of cash on more raw material.
